Bacalhau Updates - January 2023
Welcome to the monthly Bacalhau newsletter! This month: we will give highlights of our latest release, upcoming events, exciting updates and more!
📣 New in Bacalhau - Highlight
We have just released v0.3.18 🎉. This release includes the first-ever Bacalhau Python SDK, optimized network scalability, and many more. Whether you're running large, complex simulations or smaller, quick tasks, you'll notice a noticeable improvement in the performance of your jobs.
Let’s take a look at the major highlights:
Bacalhau Python SDK: The Bacalhau Python SDK offers client-side logic, and you can fully interact with Bacalhau with a nice, Pythonic interface. The SDK will take care of signing API requests with your Bacalhau key. More info and usage examples can be found here.
Improved network scalability and reliability: Bacalhau network now uses a custom-built libp2p protocol: We have deployed
bprotocol
, stabilizing new direct peer-to-peer scheduling implementation. It upgrades our scheduling to be point-to-point rather than broadcast on GossipSub for huge performance gains.Node labels: You can now label your nodes when you create them and target jobs to specific nodes. This is useful for nodes that have a certain data source on them. More info on usage and examples can be found here.
Networking support: We have restricted network traffic to only HTTP(S) to prevent malicious users from using the network to DDoS websites they don’t like. You can now securely and without risking DDoS – build Bacalhau inside Bacalhau!
How to define a list of HTTP domains for networking jobs that compute providers are willing to execute can be found here.Users can now define memory limits on WASM jobs (PR)
Users can now define local directory storage drivers for on-prem jobs (PR)
We have a lot more exciting highlights coming up next month 🐸. You can get more details on what the team is working on in our project report
🗣 Event Recap
Wes Floyd, our Product Manager, met with leaders from other decentralized cloud projects, Phala Network and Bundlr, to discuss the future of decentralized infrastructure. They discussed recent innovations enabling decentralized compute platforms and the use cases driving workloads. You can watch the video here.
Our team member, @DeveloperAlly, spoke at the ETHGlobal S𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗽 Hackathon Workshop, and she demoed how to build your own AI-generated Art NFT DApp! You can watch the video here.
